Kilian Jornet-Summits of My Life-McKinley 2014-low-logo

Kilian Jornet completes ascent-descent record on McKinley (6,194m) with a time of 11h 48′.

The conquest of the highest peak in North America, via the Rescue Gully route, means the achievement of the sixth route in the project Summits of My Life.

“It has been a great adventure. Weather conditions were bad during much of the route. Yet, I managed to break the record, so I’m very satisfied. I took a different route rather than the usual one to avoid a stretch with fixed ropes because I wanted to stick to the values underlying the project, that is, attempting the record using as little equipment as possible, and without help ” said Jornet.

Kilian Jornet-Summits of My Life-McKinley 2014-low-logo

The ascent attempt on Mount Elbrus brings an end to Kilian Jornet’s second year of Summits Of My Life

Kilian, together with Vitaly Shkel and the Summits of My Life crew tried the attempt on Mount Elbrous last saturday. 300m away from the summit they decided to turn back and put security first:

“We attempted the ascent but weather conditions 300m from the summit were very bad: it was snowing and there were strong winds, so we decided to turn back. It was best to abandon the climb and get down before things got worse”, Kilian said.

This third expedition brings an end to the 2013 challenges of the project Summits of My Life, once completed those of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. The new film summarizing the adventures of this year and the challenges Jornet has set for next year will be broadcast in the near future. Thanks everyone!

Bruno Brunod’s predictions

bruno brunod

Bruno Brunod, who held the record of the Cervino before Kilian, made a prediction of the time Kilian would take during the challenge. It was 2h52′.

Do you know which time Kilian did? 2h52′. Isn’t it amazing? Bruno Brunod knows Kilian more than he knows himself!

Cervino record: Kilian Jornet reactions

I’ve felt great during the climb, with very good feelings. At the beginning I was very hot but step by step I’ve started getting the rhythm and then I felt great. When reaching the summit, it was a very special moment. The downhill has been good also, I’m happy I didn’t have to take many risks. I felt a couple of times, but nothing serious. When I was reaching Cervinia, I was very surprised, I really thought it would be extremely difficult to be able to beat the record. I was there with Bruno, who came along and we ran together for a while. For me this is the moment it will stick in my memory from this experience, it was very touching.  If I’m here is for people like Bruno that inspired me since I was a little kid  “.

Mont Blanc, Mathéo and the story of a cap

Mathéo Jacquemond used to wear a polka dots cycling cap in the summer days. It was indeed the same pattern of the jersey the best climber gets in Le Tour de France. On the first attempt of record to the Mont Blanc, Mathéo’s cap flew away with a wind blow in the Areste des Bosses, almost at the top of the Mont Blanc. Neither Mathéo nor Kilian could get the cap back.
